My 3 year old daughter loves the Irish Tenors, so when she got 3 Map turtles we named them Anthony, Ronan and Finbar.

Last week we added a Pleco to their tank. His name is appropriately Paddy O\'Pleco.

We have 3 Map Turtles named Anthony, Ronan and Finbar after The Irish Tenors. South Bend is the home of Notre Dame University - ""The Fighting Irish"" but fortunately our 3 little guys (The Irish Turtles) haven't fought each other - YET! We also have a Pleco in the tank called ""Paddy O'Pleco"" and he does a great job of keeping the algae down.

My daughter and I named our RES \"Pistachio\" after the character in Dana Carvey\'s MASTER OF DESGUISE movie.....turtle, turtle, turtle. LOL

My son named him Tommy. I guess it was after a long time friend of mine that had come east to visit us just before my son went on vacation to Florida.

our turtle\'s name is URCKEL.... many believe named after Steve Urkel of Family Matters. Partly true, but mostly because when my daugher was little, she and my Uncle would find turtles and keep and observe them for a while... snappers, mud turtles, etc... and my daughter Rhonda always called them TURKELS instead of Turtles. So, years later, always being a turtle lover,she finally got one. Her BF bought her one at the flea market. She said \"It\'s URCKEL the TURKEL\". We assumed it was a HE... found out later it was a SHE... but ... she doesn\'t mind. She\'s just URCKEL. My daughter is away at college now, so I\'m in charge of URCKEL for a while. We all love her.

I named my turtle squirt because when i recieved my turtle the new disney movie \"Finding Nemo\" was out. Also his personality and all was so similar to the character. It just was perfect for him:D

Just wanted to say that I had a Calico Ryukin Goldfish(fan tail) and is name is Freckles as well. I named him freckles because he had freckles on hm. He had 3 lives...my ex b/f almost killed him by making his water too hot. He did that twice. Dummy! And he finnaly died in Sept, \'04. Poor Freckles.You can see his picture on www.centralpets.com Anyway back to turtle talk...You can tell if your turtle is a girl or a boy by: the claws..if the yare short it\'s a female..and also by the tail...now this is kinda odd but if you look at the turtles tail and if the reproductive organ is closer to the turtle is a female..if the reproductive organ is closer to the point of the tail it\'s a boy...I got that info from this site (copy & paste it) ... tripod.com/redearsliderturtles/id3.html that says...Males have very long front claws and longer, thicker tails with a cloacal opening that extends past the edge of the carapace. Females have shorter front claws, shorter, thinner tails and their cloacal openings do not extend past the edge of the carapace. my turtles name is dozer. I came up with the name because it suits him perfectly. he likes to plow the gravel, push the tank ornaments around, he likes to crawl around the nottom and dig in the gravel, a bulldozer must be his idle so I named him dozer. he\'s also a fast swimmer and quite strong.

Leo: hoping he would be strong like the ninja turtles one day

Green: my sis gave her the name although it doesn\'t really suit her,,she\'s more yellowish

mint: i thought he looks like a mint leaf..small and very green

I always thought turtles have great camoflauge(sp?) and my 1 turtle would always hide in the floating plants and I could never find him unless i looked very hard. So I named him \"Camo\" My other RES is a lighter green the colour of a sour apple, so my roommate named him \"Sour\"

btw do u think i should introduce him to them straight away or is it better to keep him alone for a while until he gets close to their sizes? i\'m not worried about mint he is so social but green is a terrorist

try it see how it goes...Green will always be bigger then the other so let see and,if it\'s not working u can always keep ur 2 males together and Green by herself...

hmmm unfortunately this seems to be the best idea..the problems are:

1- i don\'t want green to be alone too

2- we\'ll be going back to the space problem

but don\'t turtles just ignore each other if they had enough space to be independent?

We call ours Tinny Tim (Tinn knee Tim), a character on Futurama. A broken robot, who is supposed to be a robot form of Tiny Tim.

We also call her Tim Tim Timmy, from South Park. The kids are stuck on Tinny Tim. i come home from work and they ask can we see tinny. It is so cute.

He is a boy, but I really really liked the name shelly.
Strayking gave me the name twister because he is some kind of mixed breed

I named mine MikiMoto, MIKI for short. Mikimoto is a RICH jewler in Japan I believe, and my turt seems so HIGH-CLASS thats why. Kind of stupid but LOLOL i dunno thats MY MIKI

i have 1 RES and 2 red bellied cooters...

the RES is named Daximus, Dax for short, because Dax is a memeber of a local band here that i seem to be obsessed with.. and the turtle just looks like a dax to me lol.

one of the red bellied cooters is smaller then the other one.. and (she?) likes to pester the other two turtles.. she'll climb on top of them, and chase them around... it's so cute! so i let my sister name it (since my sister is hobit sized, she gets to name the hobit turtle..) so she named it pox.. short for small pox ^__^

and the last turtle.. has no name.. since i pestered my fiance to give it one.. but he never got around to it.. (men.. hurmp! kidding..) so i think i'm just going to name it Zixox... after a song Smile

I had 3 one left today .... All my turtles have first and last names

Oldest RES Name Eric Clapton- because my other half plays the guitar and him and his friends sit aroudn the table outside and play at all hours of the night, he was rescuded from my neighbors house, so when they play eric clapton songs he dances around.

My baby RES- Peter Tosh- he has a dark dark shell, and a lott of attitude.

The one that passed away was a baby RES- Armadus Mozart- shy quiet always bullied but a masterpiece had a perfect shell

perfect shell,passed away..this is familiar to me..i had a baby RES who had the most beautiful shell patterns i ever saw..he was shy but so lovely and cute and was also bullied at by my other RES..he passed away last october Sad

my turtles name is robin because i wasnt sure if he was a boy or a girl, now i think hes a boy, but hey im no expert ya know? also robin the boy wonder was my fav super heroe wen i was little and is still my fav (if i get another turtle ill either name it batman or batgirl depending on the sex)

My two tortoises were named by my first grade class about two years ago. Speedy is the Greek tortoise (actually is pretty fast), and Aesop is the red footed tortoise. Aesop was so named because the class had just read the tortoise and the hare when we bought him. We also had a second Greek tortoise. His name was Kenicki since one of the girls loved the movie Grease, and he was a Greek tortoise. Unfortunately he was sold to us (Petsmart) with pneumonia and passed fairly quickly.
