How can you tell the difference betweeen male and female red-eared sliders? I\'m new at this, and I have no clue. Thanks!

\"...males have longer nails.\"

Longer than what?

I\'m wondering too. Our \"Gloria\" is at least 15 years old, and we can\'t tell if it\'s a Gloria or a Gordon...

Eric.

If you are having trouble finding out the sex, the best thing to do is go to a pet store that has a lot of RES and compare. This is how I found out the sex of mine. Males have longer claws and longer, thicker tails then females. Also males dont get as large as females. Its harder to tell the sex of a baby RES. Good Luck!

I was told that if the closer the butt is to the shell, it\'s one and if it is lower on the tail it is the other but I\'m not sure which is which...

From what I know the males should have long nails and longer thick tails with an incurve to their belly and their \"butt hole\" should be closer to the end of there tail.

The females should have shorter nails and shorter skinnier tails and a flat belly. Their \"butt hole\" should be close to their body.

I don\'t know if this will help but I hope so!
