Hello i work for a humane society in new york, we recently recieved a small turtle which none of us are familiar with. It has a small oval type shell, smooth with ring of smaller shell segments along the base of its shell. its underside is black with some color like a redish orange. its skin is black, and its head is large for the size of its body. also the head has yellow and brownish strips, and the head is not rounded but more pointed. I would appreciate any help in the identification of this little guy, and a picture of what you think it is.

SOME of the info u gave sounds like a snapping turtle, such as the skin color, large head, pointed head. But all the rest such as the round, oval shell, color markings are not a snappers features, so i have no clue what it is.
