| I am soon moving to a dorm room and I can only have a pet that is in an aquarium. I\'ve decided that I would like to get a turtle or two but I can\'t get one then have it grow to the size of a dog! What is a type of turtle that will stay pretty small so I can keep it in a dorm room??? |

I believe turtles all get too big to be kept in a dorm room. It\'s best that you stick with goldfish in your dorm room. (I used to live in a dorm at school)
Since the turtles gets bigger and bigger, and which requires bigger and bigger tank, and more frequent trips to the bathroom to change the water; its best to get a goldfish or any type of fish instead. Turtles can get up to 10 inches (or maybe even bigger). It won\'t be easy to keep it in the dorm room. They need more care and attention than fish (and they are more expensive to take care of too than fish). |

If you buy a hatchling it will stay under 4 inches during your collage stay if it is 4 years or less. _________________ Keep it real |

We just got two box turtle hatchlings for our daughter. They\'re the size of a quarter and a fifty-cent piece. I believe they stay small for a few years. They\'re land turtles and you wouldn\'t have to mess with the water. So you might want to consider a box turtle or other land turtle. Good luck in your decision |

1. Don\'t get a hatchling unless you want it for long after you get out of college.
2. How big of an aquarium did you have in mind? Fish bowl? no chance. But a 20 gal can handle 1 small turtle. Mud turtles generally only grow to about 5 inches.
3. Maybe a tree frog or a toad would be good. Or a hermit crab etc, if you don\'t want to go with fish.
AND if you do get a fish...NOT all fish would be better than a turtle. Pet stores sometimes sell baby Oscars. They are about 2-3 inches long at that point, but will grow to 10-12 inches long faster than a turtle would. ANY pet should be researched before buying. |
