We live in Sacto. CA foothills & found this little one toddling across the driveway. Feet are clawed, not webbed so we are guessing tortoise of some kind. I don't think it is domed enough to be a box type. Size is about 5" by 4" & the color in the picture is pretty accurate.
The gray splotches in the picture look like some kind of filler was used on its shell. If so, it was probably someones pet & won't survive on its own. If I can't find the previous owner, then I need help on what to feed.
So, even if no one knows exact type, hopefully someone will identify enough characteristics to tell me what to feed it. So far it has rejected fruit, earthworms, & meal worms.
Thank you
Country

but I don't think it is a desert tortoise. At least it doesn't look like any in the link you posted. Tonight I tried him with a Mulberry leaf but that didn't work. Tomorrow I'll try some roses.
Thanks again,

Hello:
What you found was a Russian Tortoise (Agrionemys horsefieldi). It is probably an escapee. It is a land turtle and not a water turtle.
Have a Great Day!!!
