My red earred slider likes to dig in the gravel and yesterday I saw her chewing..it was a pebble and she swallowed it. Will this hurt her and why does she do it?

This may cause a blockage in her breathing. In stead of having pebbles as substrate, you should use large river rocks, they look just as nice. Your res probally does that cuz she is bored, or hungry, put some feeder fish in ur tank for her to chase and entertain herself. Good luck
