I don't have a pic (yet) but we found this little turtle. He's COVERED with mud. His shell is about an 1 1/2 from front to back. He has a long tail.
He has so much mud on his shell, it's hard to tell what the shell looks like, but the back edge has a very distinct jagged edge. His skin under his chin looks pretty much...mud-colored. He's not brightly colored in any way, that I can see (right now...) He has a pointy nose, too.
I'd love to take him out and wash him off, but I don't know what a snapping turtle looks like, so I'm scared to touch him.
We found him on our front patio, which is right next to a "flower bed" of sorts that has a large bush and large rocks for landscaping (no real flowers). There is a pond behind our row of townhouses, but I can't imagine how long it would have taken him to walk from back there, all the way around the building...I suppose it's possible....
Does this description help? I told my son if he eats bugs, we're going to let him go, but if he eats veggies we can keep him but I want to know everything there is to know before I do that. I'd hate to be the demise of this poor guy. |
