|
|
| I heard that guppys are good for RES so I'm wondering how much you guys buy guppys for. I see them online for like $4.00 and I'm wondering why I should feed such expensive fish to a turtle. Also, is it true that they breed in 2 days? I want to breed them so I won't have to buy more, and is it possible to breed them in a separate tank like 1 gallon big and then release them in the turtle tank because I want the guppys to have a chance to breed in case the turtles decide to eat them right away. |

I have bought rosey red minnows for like 35 to 40 cents each, 50 tops, I haven't bought guppies so I don't know the price, but the turtles will eat the minnows just as good as they will the guppies, so I would go with the minnows. _________________

Yeah but the thing is that rosey red minnows don't breed as fast as guppys right? |

fancy guppies go for 4 bucks each. feeder guppies go for 1-2 bucks a dozen. they dont breed in two days, but they breed often enough. i find that the turtles eat most of the babies because they are slow and clueless, and the guppies eat the babies too. i tried to breed them sepearately and it didnt work. you would need to get a special breeding tank for them. 1 gal isnt going to work. its just easier to buy a dozen or so at a time. its good because it adds alittle more life and movement to the tank, as well as a snack for your turts _________________ I love my turtles! |

| F&G is absolutely right, feeders are a nice addition to a diet. I've learned to use common sense: buy feeders only at a shop that seem decently clean: no algae in the tanks, no dead fish in the display area. If the feeders are dirty inside, they can give your babies indigestion. I had a bad batch of feeders once, they ate every one of them (greedy piglets), then sat around and glared at me for DAYS! |
