|
Hi everyone! My name's Jenn and I'm a mom of 3 human kids and many other non-human kids. We have 1 dog, a betta fish and 13 guinea pigs (5 of which we are fostering).
Anyways, I'm researching about turtles and have lots of questions. My 12yr old son has expressed an interest in getting a turtle for a pet but I'm not sure what kind to get, where to get one, how to care for them, etc.... I know that I am responsible for taking care of everyone in the household and this will be no problem. So, if anyone can give us some directions on what type is easier to deal w/ land or water turtles and what type of housing they need, what type of food they require, etc... We'd appreciate it. Thanks for your help. |

| i have aquatic, so im not sure about how easy land is, but depending on where you live and what the laws are youll need at least 44 gallon aquarium for an aquatic turtle if it is 4 inches long. it can be expensive, but make sure you know where the turtle is coming from, it is better to get it from a private breeder, welcome to the forum |

This would be a good link to start, it gives you the breakdown on cost of turtle as well as equipment and such:

| Well I have a friend who has a friend that is looking to rehome their Eastern Box Turtle. Does anyone have any idea how to take care of them? I still haven't decided if we want to go land or water but I would like your input. Thanks. |

well if you have a friend looking to find a home for a turtle, i recommend that option, it is ensuring the care of that turtle. what is the age and size?
aquatic is probably more expensive than land, because of filters and heaters, but i recommend taking in the painted, do you have an aquarium and stuff, or are they giving it to you? |

| I believe the guy will be coming w/ all of his things but I haven't really gotten too many details since I was still doing research. I'm thinking they've had him for quite awhile. Their last child is going away to college and I'm thinking it was hers or something like that. I guess I should get more details. |

I rescue turtles and I am only 13 i have had several 100 TYPES of turtles here thoguh i have not had 1 of every type and in my experience i would say you would probably like a red belly cooter (aquatic turtle but needs a place to go on land) they are friendly and they are easy to train for more info PM me ^_^ _________________
glitter-graphics.com |

Turtlesale.com is not a very good place to buy turtles from! Do not buy from there. They deliver dead turtles most of the time! _________________ 3 very funny dachshunds!
