my turtles are awake most of the day and dont sleep during basking and sleep very little at nightand they sleep inside their floating log (because of possom and raccoon avoidance training) so i think sleep is different for most turtles _________________ I miss my turtles spikeI and Buffy.I am glad to have Killer SpikeII and Sarih and Tiger.Luv the barn cats Pirrate Bindi Tigger Comet Poppy Onyx Snowball and Boo. Mine sleeps as soon as the light goes out. Seriously, 5pm, lights out, his eyes are closed.
He's usually up and around in the morning and all through the day. _________________ I brake for turtles! |

Mine has been sleeping in the water during the day, and i'm wondering if this is good or not. and he's hardly been basking... like not basking at all.. is this normal?
I got him about two weeks ago and was beginning to think that he was getting used to the aquarium, but these past two days just seem to have set him back. what should i do?
help!! |

I thought that too with my Sliders, but I read that when they sleep they can hold their breath for up to 2 hours. Mine always sleep at the bottom of the tank. |

Wow, I've suddendly been having the exact same problem.
I've had him for about 2 weeks now, had trouble with him basking, finally found something he could use, and he'd been basking sporadically all last week.
But since last Friday he has been sleeping in his cave during the day, not basking, and moves around at night!
He is still a voracious eater, and is quick to escape if I intrude upon him, but his new behaviour worries me. The only difference is that I got a heater because his water temp was ranging between 72-74.
But I'm having trouble with the heater as well now, sometimes it gets up to 82 when I have it set at 76... But I wouldn't see hot water making him a sleepy head.
Hope someone can tackle our problem! |

You sometimes have to compensate for the heater size vs amount of water. It's not an exact science after all. Turn the heater down a notch if the water temp is higher than you want, basically.
It's only been a few days... If he's been eating he is probably fine. =) |

I added more water to the tank and reset the heater, and now it is at a constant 80 degrees and he has more room to swim.
I'd added the extra water so he'd be able to chase these fish more adequately, and he definitely had a blast and looked completely healthy.
But now he's seems to have taken up constant sleeping again.
Goes out to breathed, not much else.
I really need to figure out how to elevate his cave, right now it's submerged under water, which I guess isn't good for basking, but he's put off basking as of late anyways... So I figured he might as well have water to swim in. |
