Hi - I was wondering if anyone knows if turtles are affected by ultrasonic sound? There are ultrasonic sound things you can buy to humanely keep rodents away...
I have a dog door and am worried rats are getting in the house (my old is older and might not notice) The label reads that the ultra sonic sounds keep rodents away, but won't affect cats, dogs and humans. I'd like to try them in the room with the dog door, but it's the same room that I have my turtal tank in. I have two RES... they are still young, maybe 4".
Thanks for your imput![/b] |

I have used one of those a long time ago when I lived in an old house with mice, I never really saw its effectiveness, the mice didn't seem to mind the ultrasonic sound (if they could hear it at all), how do they figure out how good a rat/mouse's hearing is, I have never heard of a rat ear exam. , anyway, I would say to plug the thing close to their tank when they have settled down and if you see a reaction, assume that it bothers them, if they just do their thing and don't seem afraid, panicked, or in pain, assume that they can't hear it.
It is like trying a new food for the first time, you look around to see who else is eating that food and you look for reactions, if you see someone making a face or spitting it out, you know not to try it. _________________
