As if that made sense...
Ok, what I am asking is, how wise is it to introduce a baby RES, maybe six inches in circumference(not sure, regular legal pet shop size), in with a mature RES?

Will the teenage/adult RES figure its food just as soon as it hits the water?

I can tell you, as a kid, my parents had too mature RES and I caught a big ole bullfrog... Figured they'd be palls! HAHAH... A bit traumatic =P!

How big is a "mature" slider in this case? Do they have lots of space?

My friend Al recently integrated his younger slider with his old one. Galahad was half the size of Turtle. He did it on a couple days off to see how they would get along, so he could watch them and make sure Turtle did not get aggressive to Galahad. They were and are fine, even with the size difference.

As with many things, you really can't know until you try it. There are lots of happy community turtles, there are lots of horror stories about turtles kept together... that is a risk you take. If one of the turtles is aggressive, be on the lookout so you can separate them immediately. If it works, then hey.

I can already see this place will be a great help!

Umm, the SPCA lady said "I'm pretty sure it is normal adult size."

Hard to tell without a reference size... But I'd say its a good 8 inches long?
and the little critters at the pet shop are hardly 2 inches long.

Guess its a risk like you said.

Maybe you should read this post before deciding on a mix of young and old:

Tape measures are wonderful tools for measuring turtles. =)

And that's a great post to read, StrayKing. While it can and has been done, the results of the linked post are not uncommon. I've learned that many things CAN be done in the keeping of turtles, but that doesn't mean they should if it can be avoided. You take risks with some decisions.

Thanks for the link, this turtle is big and old, so instead of a baby, I think it will be safe getting one roughly three quarters the size.
