I just purchased a Fluval 404 and am new to the whole canister filter thing. I know you can put different types of filter medias in the baskets, but was wondering what medias people with turtles used. If anyone has any suggestions or commemts please let me know. Thanks!

When i purchased my fluval 405 which is basically the same as the 404, i asked the same question and had different suggestions. I keep one cart filled with filter media and the rest with carbon.

I recommend two filled with the bio media and at least one with carbon. You can vary the last one. There is media that combines barbon and zeolite which will assist in the removal of amonia and nitrates/nitrites.
