Hi, I have a 18mth old female turtle who has recently started making a chirping/squeking noise whwenever we go near the tank. Is she frightened? What should we do? Confused

okay, so squeaking is never a good sign. have you noticed her basking more than usual? is she eating properly? does she float or swim at an angle? if she is doing any or all of these things, she probably has a respiratory infection, in which case she needs to go see a vet (get shots not oral medication). however, turtles have been known to make noise on their own. i read a post on this site about turtles that made noises whenever the radio was turned on. but i suggest you watch your turtle more closely to see if she has any of the symptoms i listed. hope this helps

Hi, thank you for the reply. Yes she is basking more and not eating but she doesn't swim or float on her side. I will find a vet today and take her.
Thank You again - will keep you updated Sad

turtles dont reach sexual maturity at that young an age (unless she is older than you think she is) are your temps up? you should try and keep her warm to help her fight off whatever is bothering her (cold blooded animals cant get fevers, which help to burn off harmful bacteria, so instead reptiles will seek out the warmest place they can find to make a fake fever). they will also become lazy and lethargic if they are cold. but yeah, keep offering food every day, keep her warm, and watch for any more unusual behaviours in her and in your guy.
