Hi! I am new here. I have a RES named Twelvey who is about 5yrs old. I have had him for about 4yrs now. I just acquired a new turtle from a rescue shelter in my area. The lady that runs it had no idea how to care for her and asked if I would take her, so I did. She was told she was an RES but the pet store had told her no that she wasn't. So she wasn't sure. Anyway she is beautiful and big (wasn't expecting that). Is she an RES?
The first pic doesn't do her shell justice. It is a beautiful reddish brown color.

Yeah that is where I am getting confused at. I have looked at tons of pics of RES and have not seen one shell like Shelby's and she definitely doesn't look anything like Twelvey (my youngest son named him), who is my 5yr old slider.
Here is another pic of her under her basking light
How can you tell the age of them? When I got Twelvey I was told he was about a year old, so I figure he is almost 5 and Shelby I have no idea but she has got to be way older than 5yrs old.
Here is a pic of them side by side
If going by their shells they look two totally different turtles.
Thank You:) |

There is a picture of a 30 or so year old RES that looks black in color, so I believe that your RES's color is just one of the many colors that they go through. But the ears are definately RES. _________________
