My male RES turtle is about three inches. He is always sleeping more than usual, and his eyes are always closed. He goes down to the bottom of the tank and sits there with his eyes closed. When I feed him, I usually shake the food bottle infront of him so that he knows it's time to eat. When I shake it, he usually gets all excited because he's hungry, but now when I shake it, he just sits there and dosen't even look at it.I drop the pellets infront of him so he can see them and eat, he looks at them but dosen't eat them. Also, when he's basking, he falls asleep. Can anybody help me? I haven't even had him a year and I don't want to die.

My two turtles are hardly eating at all, but the guy who gave them to me said they hibernate to a degree and they both look fine. I've tried different foods, but only one take a bit of krill once in a while so perhaps this is normal.

Make sure that their water temp. is between 75 and 78 deg. farenheight, the water might be too cold for them triggering their hibernation instinct.
