But... I don't see a waterline...

Well, I'll comment then.

Your basking platform is brilliant!! I've always wanted to find something that would add style to a tank, and have generally looked for the metal plant tables... but a giant champagne glass.... outstanding!

I imagine the small tupperware of rocks will ultimately be spread around the bottom?

When will your filter arrive?

Do you also have some thermometers to monitor the temps? I don't think this is critical as you can generally tell warm from cold... I use the stick on type for the tank, and a digital thermometer for the basking area..

Oh, and a comment.

This is simply pondering, and not a critique or suggestion.....

I have similar fake plants in my larger tank. I introduced the plants after the turtles had become comfortable in their home, and they thoroughly examined the new addition, 'sampling' different leaves and stems until concluding that this new addition is a great place to sleep and hide - but is thoroughly inedible.

Now that they are older, they have no interest in anything that is not meat (bloodworms, superworms, shrimp, feeder fish) or pellets. I am led to believe that they become more of a herbivore, yet I think the fake plants have convinced the turts that anything of that shape and color is not food.

I wonder if they will refuse to eat vegitation because of the fake plants. I wonder if I remove the plants for a few months, then throw in some greenery - would they sample it?

So in summary and conclusion - I am not sure if fake plants are a good or bad thing, or if they do harm or no harm, or if they instill an idea or not in a turt.

I just don't know.

Thanks for the comment! Smile I'm supposed to get the filter tommorrow yah! I can't wait to put him in his new home.

The tupperware with rocks is going to stay that way I'm leaving the rocks in there, I made holes on the bottom of the tupperware for easy cleaning and I put one of those round flat airstone rings in the middle of the tupperware I also attached the jungle plants to the tupperware with cable ties.

And for the thermometers I put one of those round sticky ones inside the tank by the basking area and I have the ones with the suction cup on the other side for the water temp.

First I want to say, I LOVE YOUR TANK!!!!!! I have been trying to come up with a unique basking area too. I have not been as successful as you! My only concern is, won't the turtle ( as it gets bigger) be able to knock over the glass? Or have you secured it some way that i'm not seeing? I think I have to go back to the drawing board after seeing your tank! Don't forget to show us when it's up and running.
