I received two eastern painted turtles (both male) and a thirty gallon tank with filter as well as a load of water conditioning and fungus fighting things from a man at my job. I gave them to my lover who's taken a growing interest in turtles ever since I found my baby painter in the road. However I noticed as I placed them in our car that they had white 'slime' on their limbs and shell. Though I scrubbed their shells the slime is still on their limbs and sometimes falls off into the water making it cloudy. They dislike being handled or having anything touch their limbs so to avoid stressing them I've left it go. What could it be and what can I do to solve their problem?

Also I have a 2.5-3inch (guessing since I haven't had a chance to measure) male eastern painted turtle (baby) I found in the street. I've had it for about 2 months now and have taken very good care of him. I hear people take their turtles outside? Well its winter here but when spring comes around I would love to take Duddy outside or let him swim in a sand wash. Also is it ok to handle your turtle? When I was younger I used to always handle mine but now I'm not sure whether that was wise or not. For now I only take him out for water changes, shell scrubbing, or if I'm checking him for slime.

It is ok to handle your turtles, just make sure you wash very well with some antibacterial soap after handling. Very Happy
