spike is still bigger, but the painted has a lot of space in between his scutes.

that looks like spike the first before he got stolen by the raccoon =D now there is a spike the 2nd but its a girl! :O XD

| they are the sections of the carapace and plastron. the plastron has certain amount of scutes, basically, the lines on the shell draw the scutes. but my painted has about a 1/4 of an inch inbetween each scute, and from what ive read, i dont really know, but that is quite unusual...maybe hes just growing alot. |
