My turtle was floating at the bottom of the tank when I got home. His eyes were open, but he was not responding.
Now, his eyes are closed, he is limp, with the exception of a gasp once in a great while.
Is he beginning to hibernate or is he sick? Or is he dieing?
I'm panicky! Please give advice!
Thx. |

Turtles often hang out at the bottom of the tank. But you could also have a serious problem.
Could you tell us a little about your setup? Lights, water and land temps, filter, substrate. If we know your temps and general information it would help in determaning if you have a problem. _________________

72 is to low. What about your basking area temps? It sounds like he may indeed be ill if the temps are that low. Temps between 66 and 72 are refered to as the "Death Zone" In this range the temps are too low to simulate hunger and keep the immune system in good health but it is to warm to let the turtles hibernate.
Wram the tank up to at least 86 while he is recovering. The higher temp will help him immune system heal. The basking area should be just slightly warmer around 90. Make sur eyou offer foods rich in Vit A. When turtles are subjected to lower temps they can use the Vit A to help boost the immune sysytem too.
First thing Monday morn. Schedule an appointment with your vet. Your turtle may need antibiotics. _________________
