|

Hello everyone, I'm Delbert, and I have a Turtle named Turkey.
I got my turtle which is a red eared slider at a flea market. My wife bought her because she was "too cute" she was around 2" or less. I know now that those are illegal to sell but at the time I knew nothing of turtles.
We brought em home and set up an old empty aquarium we had and for a long time he was happy there and thrived. I was surprized because in my reasearch I learned that many turtles sold this young don't seem to do well.
Turkey is now about 4 and a half inchs long and is around 4 years old as near as I can figure. and I'm fairly sure Turkey is a girl..
In a house full of Pets this is the only one I ever got to name and I think it just trips off the tounge.. LOL..
This last weekend I got Turkey a new much larger tank with a larger filter sysem and she really likes to swim around in it.. I also got a floating dock for it but I have yet to see her on it.. which worries me a bit.. If all else fails I'll just have to make a land area out of stones.. thought she really likes to swim under the dock..
I think my turtle is happy, when I walk by her tank she follows me from side to side.. and she follows my fingers if I put them agaist the glass.. her tank is in view of the dinning table and when we eat she scratchs agaist the glass and sticks her head up out of the water begging.. lol
anyways thats the story of Turkey and here is a photo of her..

Hey Delbert,
Turkey sounds like a good healthy RES! They're such beggers. "I just fed you! Eat a snail if you're hungry!" =)
Don't worry too much about her basking, she's probably getting her sun when nobody's watching. My guy wouldn't bask when people were around for ages. Even now sudden movements send him skittering into the water. Cheers! |
