My RES shell is turning white on the edges

I can't imagine what is wrong. He has been shedding scutes and growing like crazy lately. At first I thought his shell was just showing the irredescense that sometimes shows up right before he sheds. Then I noticed the shell was all white and the yellow markings are gone. The shell is not soft nor slimy. Is this normal? Please help. I'm very worried and the vet is not back until Tuesday.
