My fiance and I just found a slider turtle we can't get him to eat anything. We have had him for a couple of days and he won't eat. We're afraid that we're going to starve him if he doesn't eat something soon! We've tried the Wardley reptile premium sticks but they end up in the filter. We're currently trying live worms but he won't have anything to do with them either. If anyone knows what he might eat please let us know.

turtles get very stressed when taken out of their environment and put in a new one... they sometimes wont eat for a week or even two... they wont eat until they are brave enough basically... ways you can tise the turtle... try feeding pellets dipped in tuna juice... or even just little chuncks of canned tuna... this has a very pungent smells and will sometimes trigger their want to eat. Don't be scared yet... my babies didnt eat for 2 weeks when I got them.

I just got two baby turtles, and they aren't eating either, but don't they need to? I put about 6 sticks in for both of em and the painted nibbles for 5 seconds and leaves, the map I haven't seen eat at all. He is also constantly swimming at the glass, that isnt a problem, is it?

My turtles slam into the glass too... i think it is because they see out and see freedom... LOL. When they get off the basking rock they slam into the glass too, because they are going to fast.

I hope your turtle lived. I have to turn the pump and filter off when I feed my turtle so the food doesn't go into them.

I spoke with my vet regarding feeding habits. She highly stressed having a separate feeding tank. There are a couple of reasons for this. Your turtle gets used to a certain feeding time and knows what to expect and when. Also, turtles like to use the restroom when or soon after they eat, and letting them do it in the separate tank helps you keep his primary home that much cleaner for longer periods of time.

My "second tank" is a large dog bowl with a little bit of warm water to let him put his head under if he chooses. Because he normally eats quickly and I watch him as he eats, he does't escape. If your guy is bigger or fully grown, try a large mixing bowl.

Or a good rubbermaid-style dish bin.

Mind you, I've tried doing the separate tank thing and Tucker just hides and cowers for a good hour and doesn't touch his food. He's named "Tucker" for a reason. Wimp. =)
