I have a 20 year old female red ear slider. Lately she seems to have lots of filmy dead? skin hanging from her. She is eating normally, etc. I shower her in the sink and scrub with a toothbrush. My other turtle about 5 years younger does not have anything like this. is this a sign of aging or does she have an infection? Thanks

Hi Gail: I was surfing the site and ran across your message. Too bad no one had posted an answer for you. My Red Eared Slider has a similar problem. Looks like a slimey filmy gunk hanging around his neck and rear legs. It sloughs off and cloggs the filter tube and generally leaves a mess in his tank. Dudly also has stopped eating which may or may not be associated with the slime. I'm really worried and so far have not been able to find an answer. I called a pet store that specializes in reptiles and they thought it might be a bacterial infection rather than a fungus which it looks like. I also can't find a vet in my area that treats reptiles. The pet store suggested I get a larger filter and treat the tank with a product called "Turtle Clean." I just installed a larger filter and added the turtle clean. It's been only 24 hours and so far no improvement. I'll give it a few more days and let you know. In the mean time if you find out anything I'd sure like to know. Good luck.

Hi everyone! A picture would really help but it sounds like they are shedding, that is all, the green buttons at the top of the screen is one called Care Sheets that may have what you are looking for!
