| you might be able to get it cut at a glass shop for cheaper than it would be to buy. i can't guarantee that though, as i've only experienced it for small tanks. |

You can get glass tops almost anywhere. The 2 most readily available are Perfecto (cheaper in cost and construction) and All-Glass versa top brand (20-30% more in cost and way better construction)
If you have a All-Glass or Oceanic brand tank, you NEED to get the All-Glass versa top brand. Perfecto does not fit properly (too small but will work if absolutely necessary) If you own a Perfecto, Top Fin tank etc you can use the Perfecto ones with no problem.
I have had a Commercial/Residential aquarium business for 5 + years and know what I speak of, trust me.
One of the best places to get glass tops in www.thatfishplace.com. I get a lot of my stuff through them and they know what they are doing. The top you need fits both 55 and 40L tanks.
Good Luck!
