Hi,
I have a 20 year old RES. I feed him only Wardley Reptile premium sticks (he won't eat anything else, no vegetables, nothing). I've probably been over feeding him all this time. But how many sticks should I feed him and how often? And if I change the amount of food will it harm him because I have been overfeeding? Thanks. |

Thanks for the quick reply. And how many sticks should I feed him per day or every other day?
Thanks. |

I feed my turtles approximately every other day. They are nearly 5 years old about about 6" each.
I feed them either flunker's aquatic turtle formula: turtle diet or Zilla Aquatic Turtle fortified food.
I give about 10 pellets/sticks per turtle. I based it off off how many they were eating in about 5-10 minutes. I also keep a few feeder fish in the tank.
I normally buy 5 small feeder guppies and 3 large feeder comets every month. The feeder guppies are gone within the first week, but since I buy the large feeder comets, they will last about a month.
Your turlte is probably quite large, so this might not matter, but the more protein you feed your turtle, the bigger it will grow.
I restrict the number of feeder fish they get because they are mostly protein and use the pellets at the primary diet.
I hope that helps! _________________ Fred and Bobette are my best friends ... |

you should only feed your turtle every other day or every couple days. they can become over weight with too much food...i have read they can have kidney failures if they are too overweight. also the shell may start to pyramid _________________ http://punkflash54.blujay.com |
