my box turtle Roxie is acting very strange, usually she would swim and be very active..... for the past couple of days she has been sleeping and hideing alot, usually when she'd see me she'd come out wanting food... now she stays hiddn, in order for her to eat i have to uncover her, pick her up, and sit her next to the food and she eats. Once she's done she goes back into hideing, she is begining to worry me... she's not very active.... what should i do?? and suggestions??? ill take anything
PLEASE ans THANKYOU in advance _________________ what all turtles think-

hi katie,
i'm new to the box turtle world but have been reading a lot and observing Nemo, my newly adopted but 10+ year old guy. he seems to have no "normal" routine. when he first arrived and i was getting to know him...until recently (about 6 weeks), he appeared to sleep 22 hours a day. he was very predictable after a few days though of being up around 6 am and at his food dish. i'm surprised when he is active.
two days ago he was awake and exploring and basking until about noon. yesterday he must have been exhausted since he went into hiding right after a very light breakfast. i know he's healthy but what you are observing may not be normal for your guy.
also, fwiw, i'm still adjusting his indoor set up (cuz he hates being outside for some reason), and he gets mad when i move something. he'll stomp into his igloo, make loud noises (like a tantrum throwing stuff around), and stay hidden. did anything change in your turtle's environment lately? could be a consideration. _________________ "Turtle is the oldest symbol for the Earth. a new home is a big change for any animal. he's still adapting. unless he looks to be losing weight or looks sick and should see a vet, two weeks is a short time to adapt to new people and new environment. it was about a month until Nemo seemed very relaxed in his own space. he's still anxious with me handling him or my hands even being too close to him after 6-7 weeks. it seems best to just let them adapt and not move anything if possible. turtles apparently don't like their stuff moved _________________ "Turtle is the oldest symbol for the Earth.
