I'v just seen a picture of someones tank setup with Cuttle Bone in the water. Is that a good idea to do because i heard it has Calcium?

I got the idea from various turtle care sheets and folks on this board. Not only does it give him calcium, but I think it keeps Tucker occupied. Ha.

i hand feed it to my turtles so i acually hold a peice and wait till bravery or scardey-cat decides to take it, and then they have to fight the peice of Cuttle Bone to get a peice off. they love the stuff and its a workout for them. Laughing

and its hilarious to watch. Laughing

I give my water turtles a chunk of it every so often, and they wipe it out. I have some in the container with my baby boxies, but I haven't seen any signs that they have nibbled on it. It should be a good source of calcium for them. My turtles eat it faster than my birds did.

box turtels dont eat its directly they only eat it on there food in a dustish form.. i crush mine and srinkle it on the turtles food.

Rachel, I've seen pictures of cuttlebone which box turtles had taken chunks out of. Maybe it's an acquired taste for boxies. Anyway, mine are young yet and haven't chewed on it, but it's in their container so they can if they want to.

mine generally ignore it though they're more likely to eat it if it's broken into bite size chunks Very Happy

Cuttle Bone is for birds right?? I have a Ring Neck Dove and perhaps I should be giving him some cuttle along with the turtles.

yes it is meant for bireds, i use it with mine, but turtles use it to I guess, I just crush it up and put it on the turtles food, I don;t know if it sticks or not though.

I am beginning to think that each turtle has its own likes and dislikes for food so not one size fits all, so to speak. Nemo is 10 yrs old but new to me in June of this year. It's been a struggle finding food he accepts. And he is slow to try something new. I just keep offering something each day. I figure if he's hungry, he'll eat. But about two weeks after getting him, I did buy cuttlebones. They were placed on the floor near one of his favorite hangouts. He didn't touch them for weeks. Then suddenly he was taking chunks out of them. It's a morning ritual now. He's almost finished one and has started a second. I've seen him drag it around to a different location! Cuttlebone--for extra calcium, exercise, and fun Smile
