Hello...its been quite a while since I last posted, but I have a question.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to create a basking area without take up a lot of the swimming area.

I just upgraded from a 30 gallon tank to a 65 gallon tank, which, in my opinion is still too small. I had a turtle dock in my last tank, but I REALLY dislike it. Is there a way to fix something on the inside of the tank to create a basking area?

Any suggestions?

I don't have that much water in my tank. I have about 8 inches high with a basking platform and a floating rock that is attached to the side of the tank. This is over my Fluval 4 filter.

8 inches isn't a lot if your turtle is good-sized...anyways.

If you don't like a turtle dock, you could try the option my buddy went. He used clear sheets of probably...1/2 inch thick PVC. I'm not sure how he sealed it, I should find out, but he set up over 1/3 of the tank this PVC. A big flat square, then a descending part for the turtle to climb out of. The platform does not actually touch the water, it is somehow sealed to the sides of the aquarium.

I'm contemplating doing one of these in my tank later. It works very well, keeps the turtle very dry, allows visibility of the tank, and rocks out. Like I say, I'll try to find out exactly how my bud made it.

As for my wife and I, we have two different brands of turtle docks that attach via suction cups and rails. They seem to work good and don't displace any water.
