Hi, i just got a turtle 2 days ago and its a baby one, i bought a pretty small one becuase i just now kno that it was illegal to sell such small creatures. Now i cant just give it back i have to take care of it and hope it grows big and strong, i just have too many problems with this turtle though
It wont eat that concetrated food they sold me for turtles
I have it in a plastic box, i dont kno if i need a filter and uv and all that stuff if i just put it next to the window whree the sun can hit it.

Im really worried for the turtle once i found out all that stuff of how it should be taken care of, i dont want it to die since i only bought it for the best, but if i dont find help soon and what to do i think it might just happen. Confused

welcome to the board Smile don't worry, taking care of a turtle isn't a disaster..all u need is a big setup for it..10 gallons/ inch of turtle length (a big rubbermaid will do)

another thing u need is a UV light source..u said u have it next to a window but can u afford 2 hours of direct sunlight everyday? direct sunlight as not filtered by glass or anything..

third is a water heater..the temps should be in the high 70's to low 80's F..i think u can manage that now in summer since u have the tank next to a window but u'll need it for winter...

another important thing u should have is a basking area..it should be easy for the turtle to climb on and get totally dry..

the filter is needed if u're not planning to change the water everyday..get a strong filter that is minimum 3x the tank size and that'll save u a couple weeks of cleaning..

ok now u have to get the little guy eating..they usually will not eat or bask for the first week or so bcz they're scared and don't feel safe yet..try grabbing its attention with smelly food like tuna fish..they love that but don't make it its basic diet cz it should be given as treats only..after the turtle starts eating and getting used to u, quit the tuna fish and begin with the pellets

read the care sheets on this website and u'll get a lot of info..if u still need anything, feel free to ask..good luck and keep us posted Smile

Welcome to the board:D

The only thing I have to add is that you don't forget the turtle is by the window, because even though the turtle gets sunlight, unless the window is open and the turtle is in a shallow dish, he/she won't get any UV benefit from the sun. Also, if you have it in the tank, you will start to have problems with your water starting to turn green. Very Happy

Here is a picture of what you should have for your turtle, Keep in mind that these items are for a starter tank, it is better to start with the biggest tank you can afford because the turtle will not stay small. Very Happy :
