I'm Joe from San Antonio, TX. I have 2 RES(s) that I got at the end of February. I bought them on an impulse and didn't realize what I'd gotten myself in to until I got home. I was out at an open air market with some friends and came to a table full of small animals. The sight of seeing 20+ tiny turtles in a 20 gallon aquarium was so cool that I up & decided to take 2 home with me. Along with them, I was sold a can of food and a small plastic bowl with a plastic palm tree.
Once I got home, I did a little research and realized that the tiny turtles I'd purchased were totally illegal and that I was gonna need a lot more than that stupid plastic bowl.
Here are some pics from the day I brought them home.
The very next day, I went to PetSmart & bought a 20 gallon aquarium, filter, UVA / UVB light, etc. Here's the 1st setup.
After a few weeks, I added some glass rocks, river rocks, a dock, some fake plants, and even made a small waterfall.
They kept hiding under the dock, so I added more water to the tank. I also took down the waterfall. They seemed to like it and are always swimming now.
They seem to be doing well and are growing pretty quickly. I've given them the names Frank & Ron. They're still in the 20 gallon tank, but they'll be moving to a 120 gallon in a few weeks. I've since taken the plants out and removed more than 1/2 of the gravel (will be using all river rocks in the new tank) to give them more room to swim.
Here are my most recent pics of them

I love the way you just went from a goofy little tank to all out overboard!! I am a Texan living in Florida and that is how I am used to doing things.....if you are gonna do it, go all out. I think its the Texan way!
Great job on the tank, it looks great. |
