Because my friend Rich L had two yesterday and one of them is missing from the tank today.
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

Keep an eye out for it as it must've escaped! They do bite each other, but it wouldn't have eaten the shell and all.
Good luck finding him. Poor thing is probably under a baseboard drying up.
