|
|
I have two red ear sliders in a 60 gallon tank and i got the whole set up as i should with a fluval 405 filter, mesh top and combo light w/ flourescent light, day light and night light, i also have the heater set up in the tank. Now my only concern is that i am not sure if i am handling the lgiht set up the right way. I was meaning to get a timer for the lights but i was told i can do it myself but now when should i keep the day light on for the Res and when do i turn on the black light? I assume i always keep the flourescent light on? i noticed the flourescent light doesnt come with an On/Off switch but i have a feeling i am wrong about that as well.
Please help me out, my sliders lived in a 10 gallon tank for 2 years and i know thats abuse for them and i am doing everything possible to make it up to them and give them a better home and keep them happy |

Oh DUDE. Get a timer. You will save yourself so much hassle. Every day on and off at the same time, and you don't have to touch anything. Even if you go away. It's great.
You want to mimic the outside world's lights. Sunlight isn't on 24-7 for a turtle in the wild, nor should it be at home. All daylight lights should be on during daytime, basically. If you have a night light then that goes on when the day lights are out.
I do 12 hours for my basking and UVB (fluorescent) lights. They come at about 9 and go off at 9, give or take. What brands did you buy? Anyways sounds like your guys got awesome lighting.
But dude. Timers are life-savers. |
