Help a turtle from the pond behind my fathers house laid eggs and then went back to the pond. Dad put a wire basket over the area to keep other animals from digging them up. He wants to know how long it will take for them to hatch and he will remove the basket then. Thank you so much for any help. Oh yeah these are red slider turtles that are in his pond.

The eggs will hatch out in about 55-65 days. A female ususally lays 2-4 clutches so be on the lookout for more.

Fun fact: Did you know that temperature in the first weeks determines sex? Eggs that are laid when the temps are around 75 have a higher percentage of males. Around 85 and they hatchout mostly females and temps atround 80-82 are usually a good mix.

Thank you so much and I will let him know he has a while to wait. Is there anything else tht he can do as a bystander to make sure the eggs will be safe beside putting the wire cage over it? He would love to get something like this on flim so Im sure he will be protecting them well. Thanks again Very Happy
