So I rescued this 3 mth old puppy the other day cuz the owner had him outside with no food or water. Things were going great until yesterday. He got sick real quick, vomiting lethargic, etc. Took him to vet. The vet asked if he was up to date on shots I said I had no idea as I rescued him. They tested him for Parvo and worms. They said they hoped it was just worms But the symptoms sounded more like Parvo. Parvo test came back slightly positive so they did another test just to make sure it was a false positive.
It wasnt. He has Parvo, highly contageous and can kill a dog if left untreated for sure. So she suggested I let he take him and she would administer the IV fluids and antibiotic for a few days. I asked how much she said approx 100 dollars per day. I told her I could not afford that, so she said we could administer the IV fluids Subq. and give him a shot of anitibiotics and I would need to return to the clinin tomorrow (today) for more treatments. I was afraid my puppy wouldnt make it through the night. I never prayed so hard in my life. Woke up today he was still living only he was much more livelier (playful, loveable etc) Took him to vet as I was instructed to and she said to give him antibiotics for 2 weeks and make sure he drinks plenty of fluids so he dont dehydrate. She was suprised he was doing so well so soon.
Point is make sure your puppies get the vaccines they need or you will be in the same nerve wrecking place I have been out for the last 24 hours.
