Our 2 yr old pommy female had cancer last fall and we had to put her to sleep.
That was the worst decision I have ever had to make. _________________

| Actually, that's one of the reasons I have turtle: the oldest red ear slider in captivity made it to 62! That's also the reason I don't take baby turtles, I don't want them to outlive me and end up abused or soup. I always encourage people to adopt older turtles: they're just nice friends you haven't met yet. And they do learn new things...I promise. I got to hold my friend and companion (dog, Leopold) of eighteen years while the medicine stopped his heart. If you're a good reader, you might find Harlan Ellison's story "The Deathbird" helpful: it deals with the loss of a dog in the context of the end of the universe and the rebirth of creation. Heavy stuff, very well written. |
