My friend, who lives in New Jersey, found this baby turtle on the sidewalk and took it home because she was afraid he might either be a pet someone lost or get hurt. He's very different looking, so if someone could help us identify what type of turtle he is, that would be great.

Try Diamondback terrapin.

It looks like Willie's, I'll see if I can find his pictures.

Here are some pictures from the Chelonian trust web site. Remember babies often look a little different than adults.

Northern Diamondback

Florida Diamondback

Go to pictures. Then choose ornate hatchlings and from the bottom list choose cb yellow at 6 months.

After looking some on this site I would say you have an Ornate terrapin

Thank you so much for the response! I think you may be right! I'll tell my friend, I'm sure she'll be excited to finally know. Can you believe she found the little guy outside? He must have been someones pet that they released because I highly doubt they are native to New Jersey, LOL.
