Hey all,

Well, Tucker's just under four inches now. He hadn't quite outgrown his twenty gallon --- well, he pretty much had --- but the Fluval 2 wasn't able to handle the growing guy's mess all that hot. Rather than buying just one level up, I took advantage of a great sale and picked up a Filstar Xp3 and my wife got a giant rubbermaid for about 7 bucks. Everything else we had is still suitable. To keep the UVA light secure (the non basking lamp), I drilled holes into the rim of the container and secured the light with screws.

We hope to buy him a 75 gallon aquarium and stand within six months (and then not buy a new tank for years, hooray), but until we can afford it he's got tons more room. He's not entirely sure what to do with all the space yet, but thought I'd post a few pics.

Tucker's full Flickr set. Dumb turtle has more pictures than any human on the account. Wink

Finally got some pics of Muckey in his tank. He's has a 20 gal. tank filled 3/4 of the way right now, but he's getting a bigger one soon, as a 1st birthday present. I'm thinking a 55 gal should last him a few years. Sorry about the glare!

It was at petsmart/petco, I can't remember which. It's actually a rock for a fish tank that stands at the perfect height of my water and has a nice flat surface.

awesome tanks everyone... but just so you all know... Gravel... tho it may look good is NOT a good idea for turtles!!!! Little gravel rocks can be eaten mistakenly by turtles rumaging for food. If the rocks are eaten they may have a HARD time passing them... and can cause a blockage that can ultimaty kill them. So, it is storngly recomended that you use large river rocks, sand, or nothing at all.

We went out and bought Tucker a 75 gallon tank and stand from BIG AL'S here in Canada. I think we finally have a tank that will last him more than a few months. =D

Not the best pictures, but I'm pretty happy with the tank --- and I think Tucker is as well, heh.

you could see it in her pictures, they have a canister filter and if you look carefully you can see the tubes running through but the plants cover it up a bit. pretty kool set up, i like it Smile

i dont have a filter... im thinking it will be a good purchase so i dont have to clean the tank so much, and im sure my turtle will be happy! (i feed it somewhere else than the tank so i wait after its meal for it to digest its food and get it out, so that helps alot and no left over food gettting stuck in the rocks!)

also - i like making set-ups, so everytime i clean my tank i usually re-arrange things. right now this is somewhat the setup, ill get more pics. i need to get more water and stuff.

im not even sure if these were all taken with the same set-up. basically you can only see the basking spot, which is that piece of driftwood.

im going to clean it tommorow if its not raining out. and ive got some new iideas, definatly more water!!!

and i always have some sort of hiding place for yurtle, cause it doesnt like when people walk in my room quickly. s/he always is peaking out to see what is going on, i have a pretty intresting room for it to look at........

basically my whole ceiling is filled with ads and posters (mainly skateboarding) and i have lots of pretty lights

Omg, Jamie, how do you not have a filter?

that is def a good investment. That should be the second thing to get after getting your turtles a tank is definitly a filter. their waste smells so bad and they are such messy eaters that you will wind up cleaning that tank every other day.

well, as i said, i dont feed yurtle in that tank anymore, because yes it was really dirty and icky.

right now its nice out, so i bring yurtles meal outside, then i wait for it to go to the bathroom before i put it back in the tank. it's helped alot

so filters.... would it just be like wat they have for fish tanks? Question

oh and, i didnt buy the aquarium i've had it my whole life - but pretty soon were gunna get a larger tank.

i will make a topic about the filters so maybe you can check that out n help me pick one

well what you are doing works well but its alot of work to do everyday, as long as you dont mind. probably would make your life easier.

i use fluval filters, i originally started with a fluval 2 plus then upgraded to fluval 4 plus and now added a fluval 405 canister filter and i absolutely love it. keeps the tank very clean and makes zero noise.

i dont know much about other brands so you should still post a thread about it when you are ready to buy one so you can get other opinions. I know that fluvals are pretty expensive, thats the only bad thing about fluvals but if you are willing to make the investment you wont be disappointed.

what size tank do you own? the fluval 4 plus are now going for 59.99. But i am not sure where you are located, they might be selling for cheaper by your area.

but depending on your tank size, you can probably start with something smaller if thats too much. The fluval 405 canister filter that i have costs $189 but i dont think you would need something like that right now because im sure you dont have a tank over 50 gallons. If you do then i would suggest getting a canister filter.

Our tank pictured from left to right. We have a 55 gallon tank with a total of 6 filters, and because he is such a destructive little guy, i siliconed rocks to the base of all of his plants so i could easily put them back after he "re-arranges". Also, we started out with 25 guppies to feed him while we were in Mexico, and now we have about 100, with new fish bieng born every week!!

Ok, I am getting a baby mississippi map and a southern painted baby. I have a few fish, and a catfish to help clean their poo. It is a 45 gallon tank with inches of water. I figure those 2 stay generally smaller so they should be fine in theree for 2 or 3 years together.

If you could please give me tips about my tank that would be great. I took out the gravel that was under 1.5 cm because i have heard alot about eating that >.< Please help me, I am new to this Smile

The pics are on this link.

http://web.mac.com/doublereed46/iWeb/Site/pics.html

I don't know if these pics will show up.. they are confusing me. I have a little island, a mountain with a cave for the fish and a basking dock. Filter and heater too, I think I am set, but lemme know if it can be fixed
