if a turtle gets a respitory problem it has an extremly slim chance or suviving it can occur if their tank water is to cold or someting is rong with the ear arround it hop this helps |

1- swollen eyes
2- soft shell
3- sleeping a LOT
4- not swimming
5- floating lopsided
6- inability to dive
7- not eating
8- gasping for air
9- skin problems like patches or mushy stuff around the mouth and neck
hmm that's all i could think of for now
oh and P.S: there is a chance for them to live if RI was treated in the right way at the early stages _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

OMG one of my turtles died 3 months ago i I havent figured out why til now. What do you think the charges should be for your friend keeping turtles in such a poor condition that they develop RI? _________________ I love my turtles! |

RI can develop even in good conditions. one of my turtles developped RI twice, its like a really bad cold for a turtle. my vet thinks that he had it when i got him and it just didnt show up untill i took him home and had him for a month. usually its because temps are low, or because they came in contact with people/turtles with colds. i know i had a cold before georgie got sick, an my five year old neighbour loves the turtles and spends time in my room watching them when he is over here, and you know how bad kids are for not covering mouths when they cough. so if your turtle has RI, it may not be because the conditions are bad, it just might be that it caught cold form you or someone else. _________________ I love my turtles! |

so if you hear your turtle breathing heavy that means it has a respitory infection?
I have a res turtle that does not seem to bask as much as my other res and sleeps alot under water, under the floating dock and eveyrtime i put food to feed them she is not quick enough to eat as much and the other res gets to the food first. When i put my ear closely inside the tank i hear what sounds like someone snoring or heavy breathing which seems to be the res taht i have been concerned about. I just started hearing this about 2 weeks now.
do you think this is a respitory infection? is there any way to treat RI at home, is the only option to take it to the vet? _________________ **Plasmik**

| It would be a good idea to have your turtle checked just to be safe. I did that with my turtles and it only cost me $35 each turtle. |
