The vets said my five years old red ear slider is a male, but he wont stay in water - it´s high summer here - and keeps digging with his fore paws on the floor, like he is trying to bury eggs. Is he a girl, or what?

Does your turtle have short nails or long? Can you post a pic? That would help us in identifying your turtle.

I´m sure he is a red ear slider, I´m very used to them, they are very commom here. The only diference is that our natives have a yellow stripe in the "ear", instead of your reds, and we call them "water tigers". Since ours are endangered species, people here are only allowed to keep artificialy bred individuals as pets. That´s why my pet is a red ear.
He´s front paws have long nails, yes, he´s kind of agressive e even if he was a she, could not be laying eggs, because he had not adult companions in the last years. Could they be like chikens? They lay non fertilized eggs.

yes they do lay unfertilized eggs, but your digging turtle does not mean that it is a she. my immature turtle also digs, it means little. especially because you say it has long nails, pics would be helpful though.
