I am wondering if anyone has tried giving their turtles Tubifex worms that come in cubes? and if it is good for them?

i personally don't prefer feeding my turtles worms or insects from any kind (i have phobia from insects anyways) lol. but keep in mind that they are to be given as treats only (no more than twice a week) _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

stealing turtles from the wild? ugghhh... if you must adopt one instead, and also i am tired of hearing about the many abandoned neglected turtles in the los angeles canal areas. _________________ Horrible turtle owner.

For Captain- we all have our views on collecting from the wild...and I am not going into it- there are nicer ways to say things. This post is not about canals in LA feel free to make a new topic about the LA area!
I am in Florida and have found water turtle's in the yard! If you can post a pic or give a description of it we can help identify it and then get it to eat! Does it have webbed feet at all? The one that is found here the most { I get brought about one a week} is a Florida cooter...it has a black head with thin yellow stripes. They are found in the road all the time and they are water turt's. I am also concerned about maybe it being a gopher tort which are very endangered and I would like to keep it alive.
Original post topic was the worm thing. I have given my water turtles tubiflex worms as a treat and they LOVE them. I also give mine earth worms, and wax worms everything as a treat with greens being the primary source of food! _________________ 3 sulcata,11 red ears,1 yellow belly,1 melanistic slider,1 map,1 western painted,2 3 toe boxies,1 striped mud,2 japanese pond,2 common musk,1 russian,1 ornate wood,1 FL Cooter,7 annam pond,2 back wood,1 Malayan box,1 Red belly |

| for tiffany-it is not as tall as a box turtle, it is low profile. no web feet, not a water turtle. it is dark in color and one single yellow stripe down the back. i have tried strawberries per the pet store, still not eating. it loves the sand though. |

Sounds like a young Florida box turtle. Try small earth worms, or bugs. As it gets bigger it would go more with the fruit and greens but when young they only eat moving things. Also as it gets bigger it'll get more of a higher domed shell. For the cage I would go with dirt and sand mixed with some dead leaves and branches to hide under. And maybe some fake plants also. Make a swimming hole with a shallow dish or lid, enough water to just come up to the split where the top shell and bottom one meet. Feed it once or twice a day and soak it in warm water for 5 or 10 minutes after feeding. CONGRATS on this find,I have never seen one in the wild here and you can save this one and in the future maybe get another and help breed as they are endangered here. _________________ 3 sulcata,11 red ears,1 yellow belly,1 melanistic slider,1 map,1 western painted,2 3 toe boxies,1 striped mud,2 japanese pond,2 common musk,1 russian,1 ornate wood,1 FL Cooter,7 annam pond,2 back wood,1 Malayan box,1 Red belly |
