hey all,
I just noticed that there are 5600 registered users on this board!! I mean if u're from the older members, u'll notice how big this is! When I first registered there weren't much people at all that u can check all the names in the members' list easily.

so,,many thanx to everyone working on makin it bigger. Taryn (although she's never around), Deesygirl for maintaining it, and all the members. I remember many names but I don't wanna go on listing and forgetting some.

I wish all the new members were here for the turtles but I have had so many junk posts to erase or deleate I am going nuts. About 5-15 a day on average, lately.

Like me!

I am still kinda new...not around all the time,but every now and then.

One thing that does kinda deter me from here is ALL of the spam and junk posts! I never seen so much in ANY other forum I am in.I am even a mod in another forum,and there isn't as much as there is here.Is there a spam blocker you can add?

yep

it's all new i've been here for a bit over 2 yrs now and all that spam started a few months back only. it's not all around anyways, just in the general discussion forums i guess. and deesygirl is the only moderator so it's good that spam is still controlled as much as it is

It all has to do with how new posters are allowed. Most forums control this in some way even by adding a code that has to be typed in or even mod approval for new members. Here is nothing. Most of the garbage I erase, however there is close to 300 posts in a holding forum visible only to me and Taryn. I have sent her messages asking for help with this and I have not recieved any response from her. It is beyond flustrating for me. I usually come here anywhere from 2-5 or more times a day to clean this garbage up, but it it hard to keep up even at that. All I need is a filter on new members and the ability to ban posters. That, I don't have either.

how about recruiting a few more moderators? i know a load of sites i go on are always advertising for them....just a thought?

I don't have the option of adding mods any more than I can limit the trolls from joining. Taryn has to do that and she hasn't answered any of my messages.
I aslo mod on other forums, most with many more members than here and we just limit membership to mod approved and there are no problems.

Hello all!

I want to thank you all for doing such a good job in making the AllTurtles message board a great place to hang out. I apologize for not always being there in the past to help keep things maintained in tip top shape. Thank you Deesygirl for all the hard work that you have done to help clean up the spam along with maintaining the board on other criteria. It seems like spammers don't seem to care where they are spamming, but to spam. I guess they don't want a targeted marketing field.

Recently we have added code verification for new registering members to help cut down on the spamming. We will be policing the forums more often to combat the spam as well.
