Ok I am getting mixed messages from all the millions of websites on box turtles. I have a two yr old box turtle in a 20 gal tank. She has a basking light and her tank stays around 85-90 under her heat lamp and around 75 in the shaded area. She has two different types of ferns, one in the shade and one in the light. She has a feeding dish in the shade and I feed her box turtle bites and snails, which she seems to like ok. She has a deep enough water dish and I put her in it every morning. Every friday I let her soak in a sink of luke warm water for a little bit. She has the ground up coconut stuff the pet store gave me and beaked moss. She also has a large rock under her basking light. The think is... I have had her for 2-3 wks and she hides every day. I do not know how to keep her from hybernating. I do not know if she even has enough food storage to survive through the winter. I am worried about her greatly. I have to pull her out every morning after I figure out where she burried herself. I put her in the water for a little bit to make sure she is not dehydrating and then stick her in her food dish to try to get her to eat. She usually takes one bite every other day. Please help!

it's a new turtle and probably is just shy. the temps sound good to me I don't think she's trying to hibernate. just give her some time, as long as she's eating that's good and she only needs some more time to adapt to the new home Smile btw, do u give her any fruits and veggies? keep a big variety of food near her so she could be tempted by any of them

I haved tried different veggies, but she just eats her fern unless i put out some kind of meat. She likes the snails so far.
