I have a female RES, and I came home the other day to find a bunch of residue in her tank. I had no idea what it was until tonight. She's starting to lay eggs, or I think they're eggs... But she tried to eat it. I had to go in the tank with a net and take it away from her. And I'm guessing that's what happened to the other egg...

Is this normal behavior?

I believe that this is normal. My female RES has eaten some of her eggs before. I think that if the eggs are not furtilized or the mother knows that the egg is no good, she will dispose of it herself. It's an instict. Hope this helps.

I was under the impression turtles had to have sand or something like that to lay eggs, they can lay them any where, and is there any way to tell if they're pregnant Surprised Surprised
