Hello to all, I am new here and pretty much new to the turtle world although I have done a good bit of research on this topic. I wanted to warn all of you not to buy any turtles from turtlesale.com because they send very sick turtles. I have bought three turtles from them this past month and two have died. I have a 29 gallon tank with water heater, a fluval filter, uvb light, and a reptile basking lamp. Their setup was perfect and I spent a great deal of money on it. The turtles I ordered were the size of quarters- two southern painted and one RES. THe southern turtles were sick when they arrived with swollen eyes, and possibly emaciated. they were lethargic and could not swim. I have a dr. turtle sulfa block in there and applied eye drops every day. I am extremely mad that they came like this with very soft shells and blind. The man I spoke to told me it was my fault even though I had only had them for one day and they had arrived this way. Don't order from these people because they obviously have no intent of carrying properly for these babies.
P.S. My RES is doing fine, but I want a partner for him. |

That's horrible. Thank you very much for posting this. I was going to order my Russian Tortoise from them, but I most certainly will not now! _________________ -= Shannon =- |

| I purchased 15 hatchlings from turtlesales.com in April, 2006. 1 arrived dead, 2 more died the next day. I mailed them back as instructed. Within the next week, 9 more died. I now have 3 left. But worse yet, they will not respond to my requests for a refund for the 1st 3 turtles that I mailed back. All of the turtles were weak, lethargic, and had sores on their necks and heads. DO NOT BUY FROM TURTLESALES.COM. |

Another turtlesale.com VICTIM here.
Bought quite a few a few months back. Opened the package in front of the UPS guy and my colleague (a veterinarian) to several DEAD babies.
Follow the instructions and mail them back, with delivery confirmation. Also send an email as required.
Phone the shop and talked to Charlie one time and always a different guy on subsequent calls.
After a month get an email response that they'll take care of the order after they receive the babies back. They already have, USPS confirms.
Email correspondence just goes in circles. It would seem that their goal is to frustrate you into submission.
I have reported them to the FDA for selling baby turtles. Sorry but if you can't run a business correctly and honor your guarantee then you don't deserve to be in business.
Of the dozen I bought, all were dead inside of about 10 days. All except one and I'm still not holding my breath on his survival.
DO NOT BUY FROM TURTLESALE.com unless you like to waste your money and suffer heartache. |

Just a response to the disatisfied customers I was reading about from Turtlesales.com...I have, on the other hand, had very good luck with them and would highly recommend them to anyone.
I have purchased two turtles, on separate occasions, as well as most of my tank setup equipment. Both turtles arrived in excellent condition and are thriving. As for the personal service, Charlie was wonderful and very knowledgeable.
I had some questions, when setting up my equipment, gave them a call, or several and they walked me through it without a problem. Sorry for those who have not had good experience, but I am quite satisfied with mine and would recommend them like I said. _________________ Satisfied Turtle Owner in Michigan |

| I have never bought turtle's from there but I am on the message board over there and I have heard ALOT of issues with the baby turtle's being sick, I know that this is NOT an excuse but when you ship as many quarter size babies out as they do then some are going to not make it. The message forum has nothing to do with the way the babies are shipped or arrive. I care about turtle's and wish they would be more selective about which ones they send so more people would have happy endings! |

Kind of late in the conversation, but if anyone is reading, trust us and STAY AWAY FROM TURTLESALES.COM. these people are only out for money! To prove my point, anyone can shop and conpair there prices on the equipment they sale. They are very over priced on everything they sale.
Next, We have bought 4 baby musk's from them and I have also talked to Charlie who brow beat me about my take setup and talked me into getting some better equipment, which I did but I didn't buy from them. And maybe he was right, however it didn't keep the babies from dieing. The last was my wife's favorate so we went to great lengths, even found a local vet who sees turtles and is a turtle-raiser himself.
He told us that this was the smallest turtle he had ever seen, (as a pet) I told him he should see our other baby at home. The vet said that no turtle under 2" in Dia. has a really good chance at life, only 50-50.
What he explained is basicly turtles are egg born, and like birds, they eat the white of the egg until they are born. The white is very healthy and sustains their systems for many months. The luckier babies, that don't have any other problems which will kill them quick, will last on this white as they eat other food. The white will offset any loss of vietimans until they can find a suitable food. However some, like our turtle, and according to the Vet a large amount of baby turtles, cannot ever find a sustainable food, and when the white finally lieves their system, they die.
Turtlesale.com has a sweet set up as long as the turtles they sale make it the 2 days. And after talking to this vet, there is only a 50% persent chance that the babies they sale will make it to adult hood, but there is a 70-80% chance that the babies they sale WILL live past the 2 day return limit, hence making profit for them, and where are you going to go back to to buy more babies when yours die and your told the reason they did was because you were too stupid. Take it from me this is a sweet rackit... |
