with the heaters? I know a guy who deals with reptiles and says I dont need a heater cause in the wild they bask on the rocks for heat and go into the water to cool off which makes sence to me but was wondering what you all thought.

Also I was told by this same person to leave the red light on 24/7 and the clear uv bulb on only during the day.Does this sound right ?

Also, I was told that the water should be only 2 inches above his shell cause again in the wild most turtles live in creaks and the water is not that deep.I have a 33 gallon long and it is half filled with water, what do you all think???

Sorry I just want as many opinions as I can get on this.I just want my turtle to be happy Very Happy

I personally have a heater to maintain temp at 78 degrees. I do not have the red light, but I have a uv light on a timer 12/12, and all my tanks are half full of water as when the dive in they may get hurt if it is too shallow.

it's different in the wild. they adapt to the weather better and can hibernate when it gets too cold. but in captivity, temps could be too low for them to act normal yet too high to hibernate. or they could be young and not ready to go through that yet. that's why u would need a heater Smile
