I'd love to hear about some of the different personality traits your
turtle(s) have. I was thinking the other morning about all the cute little things my turtle does when I am around....man nothing slips past this little guy. He perks up whenever I walk in the room...following my every move. I cannot even sneak up on him (believe me, I've tried to tip-toe in the room to spy on him, or just to check in to see what he is up to). But I guess he has a very keen sense of hearing or something. He knows when I am there. Even when he is in his little "cave" (a hollow rock) that he likes to sleep in, I no more than step through the door way and he bolts out of that cave to greet me (or beg for treats!!!). Also whenever it is feeding time, he can recognize the can of his favorite treats from across the room!!! He has also become a master beggar! When he sees the food comin' he swims over to the side of the tank that I always feed him from and out stretches his neck much like a baby bird waiting for "momma bird" to drop in the feed (akablood worms are is favorite, but given in small rations). So cute!
Finally, whenever I take him out of the tank for some hands on time, he loves when I lightly rub the underside of his neck. He sits completely still when I rub there, when I stop He either looks at me with anticipation of more or almost looks "mad" that I stopped and quickly huffs off.

I've only had this turtle for about a month so we are both learning about each other. I am certain more will be discovered as time goes on. But it sure is fun.

I'd love to hear about yours now...

Awww, that is so adorable!! He really loves his new mommy. Smile

I haven't had my Russian Tortoise for very long yet, but he is starting to respond to voices. He is finally opening up and is not as timid.

My painted turtle (whome I do not own anymore) use to go nuts whenever I came into the room! He is such a piggie! He would dive off his basking platform and splash his little feet, as if he were trying to fly out of the water towards me. He is such a cutie. I hope he is doing good in his new home. Smile

My two turtles have a big personality. When I would've come home from school Meshake and Zorra would come speeding towards the glass(every time I came home I would feed them)they would flap there front legs like crazy. Now since I'm home(summer break)when ever I get close to there tank, they look at me with those little biddie eyes. And they expect me to feed them. Also when I get close to there tanks they follow me were ever I turn.Zorra lets me rub her neck for until she wants to go for a dive. They know when it's, I don't even need to take out the can they just look at me and start flapping. Some times when I forget that reminds me.

For my male RES, i believe that he can recognise ppl.
Specially when i walk pass him, he will run toward me.
I even ask my mum to walk pass him see whether he will run toward her, but he didnt. Have try many times, the outcome is the same. Razz
i dont think my turtle is a food begger cos after playing too much with the "walking pass" game that when i try feed him, he will refuse to eat.

My turtle is a strange one. Loves food. She's fat. But, hopefully that will change when she gets her 65 gallon tank! I do not feed her that much. I think it is because (a) she doesn't have much room to swim and (b) my mom sometimes sneaks her things like Cheerios. But, I do not know when she does this, so I have to feed her the regular food anyway! If I left it up to my mom, she probably wouldn't get anything but Cheerios! LOL

She begs for food ALL the time. When I open her tank lid, she'll open her mouth and come really close to my fingers like she wants to catch it.

As for coming out of the tank, I always make my brother take her out because she is so big that I can barely grab her. She doesn't like being taken out of the tank. She doesn't mind her shell being rubbed while in the tank, and doesn't try to bite... unless you pick her up. lol

If you pick her up, she'll start flipping out and hissing and biting. Another reason I make my brother pick her up. I'm so sweet Smile

She is a master of escaping and will escape out of anything if you give her the slightest chance. Yesterday, I caught her touching the screening that goes overtop of her tank. Luckily, she didn't get out. I think she fell, or slid herself down. She didn't hurt herself, at any rate. Very Happy

She also likes to move things around... Her filter, heater, basking ramp, rock... She's crazy! lol

Thats like my 2 the big fella is always moving the stuff around in his tank, caught him floating around the tank sitting on top of the heater once!! Laughing
The little fella just moves his plants around hes not strong enough to move anything else yet..
I totally believe that they recognise people coz they both watch me when im walking around near the tanks and they both luv to beg for food too!!
When the big guy used to hiss i thought it was a bad thing so i used to leave him for awhile and then go back and take him out..he luvs being out of his tank and annoying the dog haha!!

WEll, I have 4 little ones.

KDawg is my favorite and my oldest. He is really sweet, but was very very shy at first. After letting him smell me and get used to me, we are buddies now. I can walk around and such and he just watches me, I can even walk up and pet him now, but only me, he doesn't let anyone else. Also whenever I take him outside and I start talking, he walks toward my voice. He doesn't eat too much though, just enough to keep healthy.

Isis, my female, is an oinker of a turtle. She loves to eat, and is extremely social. She will watch me on the computer and swim around, but loves eating time oh so much. She is very social and friendly with all people, even to petting.

My two little ones, Tinkerbell and Doomhammer are babies. So far the only noticeable behavior I have seen is that Tinkerbell is more social and moves around more, but they never go anywhere without the other. For 3 weeks they have always been close(an inch or so) to one another, even when sleeping. I once walked in and they were both sleeping with their heads touching, I almost hugged them both right there.

My two turtles, Fred and George, are both still pretty small. Fred is kind of antisocial, he doesnt swim up to the side or beg or anything like that, but he is such a pig! he always eats the food i put in there for them, and chases the fish all the time, i once saw him eat 3 guppies in about 5 minutes, considering his size, that is a lot of fish Rolling Eyes. George is my curious turtle. when we first got them, he was the one to explore the tank first. he is the begging one. whenever i go to get their pellets, he'll swim right up to the side of the tank, and then follow me back and forth as i walk back and forth, giving him a little exercise. he doesnt mind. even wheni put some pellets in the tank, he still doesnt pay attention to them untill i walk away, i think that he just likes to play with me. They both are kind of shy. their tank is in my room, adn everytime i walk in there and they are basking, or even if im lying on my bed and move my arm lots, they leap of their dock and scamper to hide. its funny to watch them tho. the filter i have creates a waterfall, and they swim under it and it pushes them right to the bottom. i think that they like it, or else they would stop, its like a little turtle water ride! its so cute.

my goofball RES is a beggar! I have only had Orion for a week, but he went through a dozen feeder guppies in the first 24 hours! I bought a tonne (3 doz) of fish today and he is happily chasing them all over the tank. When I come into the room he will beg for food...funny how it's cute in a 2" turtle and completely unnacceptable for an 80 lbs dog!
