|
|
We recently bought a little red-eared slider, which is our first turtle. I might be worried about something normal, but I thought I should ask. He seems to have white areas on the underside and sides of his shell, along the "seams".... I guess that this could be what normal growth looks like, but I thought it could also be extra calcium depositing or worse, thought it could be signs of an infection.
We feed him Nutrafin turtle pellets, have a slow-dissolving calcium block in the tank, have a UV light and basking lamp, and his favorite passtime is to sit on top of the submersible tank heater.
Can anyone tell me if one of my ideas is on the right track? I'd appreciate any help that more experienced turtle owners can offer.... Thanks!

| thank god someone just posted this topic. I was about to do the same thing. My baby res turtles have the same white spots underneath. I have a UV lamp (UVA + UVB), water heater (temp set to 82deg), proper diet. |

Thanks for the answer, turtle_grl77! That seemed like the most likely, but it's great to hear that from someone who's seen it.
I'm glad everyone likes our new roommate.... He was originally named Arthur, but for some reason that became Albert. Personally, I've been calling him Mr Turtle since Day1. |
