Can you hybernate a turtle the same year it was born?

My turtle (EP) is in an outside pond in NJ, Eastern Painted are native from NJ, he is only about an inch big, would it be ok to hibernate him his year and leave him in the pond, or bring him in this year. Is it too much of a risk???

I would bring him inside. He still to young for hibernating.
