First off, I'm new to the board so hello everyone. I do have a double-fold question though...
A)okay, so I've had my one turtle for a few months and he is extremely social and friendly. Even to me, I can pick him up and he doesn't get afraid or anything(Though he does with my fiance).
So anyway, since I've been gone more lately because of increased work and such, I got him a friend. She's a female that's a little bit bigger than him(He's about 4 1/2" and she is 5 1/2). I know for certain they are their seperate sexes. Moving on, I put them together and they are doing fine, but I am interested in something. He is vastly interested in her, not biting or nipping, though the chance for him to be mean did arise. He's mainly smelling her, watching her, and following her. At the same, she smelled him at first, but is not paying any attention to him at all(This is sounding more and more like real life). Even sometimes as she swims she accidently(I hope) slaps him in the face, he doesn't get angry though. I'm just hoping this is okay, that she is not paying any attention at all to him.
A little background on her is that I got her from a tank that she spent at least a year in with two other turtles, a male RES and a male Mississippi Mud, and got along with both of them well.
So I guess my question is, I'll look after them, but is the lack of acknowledgement okay?
B) If it's not, I do have some outside ponds that I toss feeder fish in for looks, 500-1000 gallons a piece. This things are mostly aesthetic, so, if I move her outside, is there any recommendation for a cover for them that will keep the pond looking good. If this works, I wouldn't mind letting both each get their own pond.
Thanks! |
